Once upon a time, there was a man named Qays, who fell deeply in love at first sight with a woman named Leyla. He soon began writing sincerely flattering love sonnets about Leyla, and would read them out loud on the streets for every passersby, willing to listen to. Such passionate displays of love and devotion caused many to refer to the man as Majnun; a madman.
